About Us
St. Peter’s Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church is a small congregation of  Malankara Syrian Orthodox Christians in Perth under the Holy see of Patriarch of Antioch and the Entire east, who is headquartered in Damascus .

We celebrate Holy Mass(Malayalam Qurbana) on all the  Sundays of every month at John Leckie Pavilion, Nedlands. Our first Holy mass was celebrated in June 2006 by Very Rev Fr Boutros Issa Cor Episcopa at St Francis of Assissi Church In East Cannington. Rev Issa celebrated the Holy mass once a month until Feb 2011 when he handed over the reigns to Fr Jomon Thomas. Our first Malayalam mass was celebrated by Rev Fr Ullas Varkey Vettikunnel ( Currently HE Paulose Mor Ireneous, Bishop of Calicut). HE was the Patriarchal Vicar for Australia and NZ from Aug 2008 until Aug 2014.

St Peter's Jacobite Syrian Church belongs to the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, which oversees the spiritual affairs of several dioceses in different parts of the world. The membership of St Peter's is largely Malankara Jacobite Syrian Christians from India. Most of us are  Australian citizens with successful careers who have established ourselves and our families in Perth. Since incorporating as an association in 2009 , we have held Syriac Orthodox services at St Thomas More College Chapel in Nedlands, which we lease from the Catholic Diocese of Perth. With the congregation now numbering sixty families (150 members) the management committee has obtained the agreement of members to identify and purchase a suitable block of land upon which to build new church premises of our own.

We are happy to inform you that from Sept 9th 2013, St Peter's Church Perth proudly owns 2.5 acres ( 10,000sqm) of land in Wattle Grove, Perth. This place is roughly 18 km from Perth CBD. We are also happy to inform you that  we secured a tax deduction advantage for  any donation to the Sunday school building  from April 2013 as per the ATO ruling. In June 2015, it was gazetted that the land could be used for place of worship. In Nov 2016, Shire of Kalamunda has given the development approval to commence the building process.

We are a well-established association with a management committee comprising dedicated and well-educated professionals from a variety of backgrounds. We are under the  Syrian Orthodox Patriarchal Vicarate of Australia & New Zealand, which has an ecclesiastical board and bishop based in India. The bishop administers spiritual affairs, ordains priests, monks and deacons, consecrates altars, churches and the holy oil for baptism and codifies bylaws for the welfare of the diocese. In Western Australia, as elsewhere, our shared faith and cultural heritage is the glue that binds our community together.  In W.A. we have the motivation, capacity and commitment to ensure the viability and ongoing success of our Church as it moves to the next stage of its development.
